Published in News and Print Clara Seeds of Change examines the legacies of colonialism and the global commerce of goods and people by focusing on the displacement of plants, in particular the scientific, social and political histories of ballast, the waste material used to stabilize ships in maritime trade and dumped in ports at the end of the ships' passages.

The work of creating, especially writing, is a solitary endeavor. Each January, Marlborough teachers encourage their students to submit to the The Scholastic Art and Writing Program, which honors young artists all over the United States.

It is advisable to take the envelope to the post office and have the clerk determine sufficient postage. Educators please know that not only do your students rely on you, but we do, too.

There are many perks to being a National Medalist. Print the submission forms. Get your faculty mentor or educator's email address, as it is needed to complete the sign-up. First is freedom of expression. We welcome art historical, iconographic, and contextual studies that expand on these works' cultural, political, ecological, or institutional context.

Students in grades 7–12 in the U.S. and its territories, as well as American schools abroad, are invited to submit creative and original work in any of the Awards’ 29 art and writing categories, including architecture, painting, flash fiction, poetry, printmaking, and video game design.
